Tito Kayak arrested for protesting against Obama

Negotiates his decent from pole if police release those arrested

Environmental activist Alberto de Jesús, better
known as "Tito Kayak" was forced down from the
pole where he was protesting against president
Barack Obama and was immediately arrested by police.

Presently is not known to what police precinct he
has been taken and whether charges will be filed
for demonstration on pole on Román Baldorioty de Castro Avenue.

De Jesus climbed the pole in the early morning
hours to display a sign in English in which he
asks for the freedom of political prisoner Oscar Lopez Rivera.

"30 years is too much", read the sign.

Following hours atop the pole, De Jesus took off
the mask which covered his face and at about
7:45 a.m. began negotiating his descend. He asked
the police for the release of those arrested in
order to come down it was reported by radio station NotiUno.

It is still not known if the police agreed to his
request. the fact is that the man was lowered by
a crane of the Emergency Services of the San Juan police and was arrested.

According to police reports six persons were arrested before Jesus.

Those arrested were transported to the
headquarters of the Transit Division in San Juan
for processing said Figueroa Sancha.

"There has to be consultation with the prosecutor
about what's occurred. As long as communications
are flowing they can demonstrate for or against
with dignity and order," the Superintendent
stated in a radio interview (NotiUno).

Figueroa Sancha pointed out that acts such as
these upon the arrival of Obama on Tuesday could lead to federal charges.

He emphasised that demonstrators cannot be
allowed disrupt the passing of the presidential caravan.

El activista ambiental Alberto de Jesús, mejor
conocido como "Tito Kayak", fue bajado del poste
en que se encontraban en protesta contra el
presidente Barack Obama y de inmediato fue arrestado por la Policía.

De inmediato, se desconoce para cuál cuartel será
trasladado y si se le radicarán cargos por
manifestarse en un poste de la avenida Román Baldorioty de Castro.

De Jesús se trepó al poste en horas de la
madrugada para desplegar un letrero en inglés en
el que pide la liberación del preso político Oscar López Rivera.

"30 years to much", dice el letrero.

Tras horas encaramado en el poste, De Jesús se
quitó la máscara que cubría su rostro y a eso de
las 7:45 a.m. comenzó a negociar su descenso.
Pidió a la Policía que liberaran a los arrestados
para poderse bajar, reportó la emisora radial NotiUno.

Aún se desconoce si la Policía accedió a su
pedido. Lo cierto es que el hombre fue bajado en
una grúa de la división de Manejo de Emergencias
del municipio de San Juan y fue arrestado.

Según informes policiacos, seis personas habían
sido arrestadas antes que De Jesús.

Los arrestados son transportados al cuartel de la
División de Tránsito en San Juan para ser procesados, dijo Figueroa Sancha.

"Hay que consultar con el fiscal en cuanto a lo
que ocurrió. Mientras la comunicación fluya,
podrán manifestarse a favor y en contra pero todo
con dignidad y orden", sostuvo el Superintendente
en entrevista radial (NotiUno).

Figueroa Sancha señaló que intentos como este en
la llegada de Obama, mañana martes, podrían
provocar la radicación de cargos a nivel federal.

Enfatizó que las expresiones de los manifestantes
no pueden interrumpir el paso a la caravana presidencial
