Today at noon Carmen Nordelo Tejera, mother of Gerardo Hernandez
Nordelo, Hero of the Republic of Cuba, died in Havana after a long
illness at the age of 75.

Carmen Nordelo was born on February 15, 1934 in the Canary Islands
and immigrated to Havana at the age of 16 due to economic reasons of
her family.

As a homemaker she supported the revolutionary activities of her
husband and took care of the intellectual and social development of
her three children.

She participated in an outstanding way in the Battle of Ideas that
the Cuban people wage in the struggle for the truth and justice for
our Five Compatriots unjustly held in the prisons of the Empire until
she could no longer continue for health reasons.

We extend to Gerardo, who is serving two life sentences plus 15
years, and to his family members, the most heartfelt condolence in
the name of the Cuban people.
