4 Jailed after Massey Mine Protest, 2 Released

PETTUS, W.Va. (AP) - Two activists with Climate Ground Zero remain in jail
after a weekend protest over mountaintop removal mining in southern West
Virginia.

Climate Ground Zero says four people locked themselves on Saturday to a
drill rig at the Bee Tree mine site on Coal River Mountain, where
Richmond, Va.-based Massey Energy has plans to blast.

The group says all four were charged with trespassing, conspiracy,
obstruction and littering.

Bail was set at $2,000 cash apiece.

Nick Martin and Laura Van Dohlen have been released, while Grace Williams
and Dea Goblirsch remained in the Southern Regional Jail on Monday.

The protesters say they worry Massey's blasting may compromise the massive
Brushy Fork coal slurry dam.
