Support Turkish veganarchist prisoner

E-mail from Turkey..... Hello friends and comrades,

I am writing to tell you about veganarchist Osman Evcan, a political prisoner (ex-leftist) in Turkey. Evcan became a Vegan eight years ago. Because the Turkish
authorities do not respect his right to have a vegan diet or the political beliefs
that he holds, Evcan has been suffering hardships as he is not getting enough food to
eat or a balanced diet. In a letter from prison, Evcan talks about the prison authorities giving him food in an unhygienic state and there have been instances where harmful chemicals have been intentionally added to his food.

A support campaign called the Initiative of Vegan Food for Osman Evcan has been started, but so far, the petitions to the authorities by Evcan himself and by the Initiative of Vegan Food for Osman Evcan have been ignored. A member of parliament called Melda Onur submitted a written question to assembly asking why Evcan's issue is being ignored and not considered. She tried to visit Evcan, but the prison authorities wouldn't let her in to see him, nor would they accept the food that Onur wanted to give to Evcan.

In his last letter to us on the 6th of November 2011, Evcan added that on an arbitrary basis prison officers have not being providing him with escorts, so that
he misses medical appointments. Having already boycotted the prison food and managing
by purchasing his own food at prison cafeteria, he says in his last letter that he needs to strengthen his attitude to be heard. Therefore he started an on-going hunger strike on 4 November 2011 for an unlimited time.

As people supporting Evcan, we would be happy to have your solidarity on his side. You can help spread the news about his situation and create international pressure on the Ministry of Justice of Turkey and other official institutions. The blog of the initiative is: Evcan's issue is taken into press on those newspapers, tv channels and internet sites:

I just returned home after my Anzac Day in Turkey, marking the 95th Anniversary of the Anzac Day memorial services at Gallipoli, Turkey.I would like to make a special thanks to everyone at Turkey for their efforts in putting together the tours for us .I have been to Gallipoli for an Anzac Day service before, this time my first trial in ;Turkey, Their value for money packages far exceed the quality and level of service we experienced on other tours especially the way our guide handled our bus at Anzac Cove when the New Zealand president decided make a private tour of the museums. The food at the barbeque was nice and fresh, but the venue is a little outdated. Me and my husband feel we are really lucky this year because we were provided an Anzac conference, a forum presented in a 5 star hotel in the centre of taksim, full of information about the history and significance of the event. The expert historians from New Zealand, Australia and Turkey were fantastic. Thank you for giving us an informative and well-rounded experience this year.
