Good news: Karen, Havely, Naomi, Wyatt, and Cailin are all out; hopefully Jordan, Alissa, and Marshall will get out today; Nick and Daniel will be bonded out after the second bond hearing on Thursday, and we’re going to see what’s needed to get Randall out.

Bad news: everyone inside has been put in isolation, and they’re on 23/7 lockdown. For folks who thought it made sense to leave them in longer and direct money towards lawyers, this is why we’re trying to get them out sooner. Isolation is the pits. We’re going to give them commissary money today so they can get calling cards and such, which we hope will help a bit.

Email howdotheywork@gmail.com to see about sending money. Even after bail is over, we hope to get these folks decent lawyers, so we need absolutely any money you can throw at us. Wire transfers, Western Union, Wachovia account transfers and sending checks are all options. We’re working on getting a paypal up and will post the link ASAP when it is functioning.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone everywhere who has sent us money, lawyers, advice, contacts, and love, and everyone who’s throwing benefits, making flyers and t-shirts, and giving us fashion tips. We appreciate it so, so much. This isn’t over, and we still need you, but it’s amazing to have seen so much solidarity already. This is what it’s all about.

Update 5/4 on the case
May 5, 2010, 2:59 pm

The 11 May Day Arrestee’s had another court date this morning. Thankfully bail has not been raised an additional time, but they officially announced what the three felonies are:

1. inciting a riot
2. conspiracy to riot
3. damage to a building, wall, etc in excess of $1500

This is in addition to the original 10 misdeanors each. All defendents have the same charges.
Though the bail is still incredibly high we are trying to get together whatever money we can to bond out as many people as possible. Please email howdotheywork@gmail.com for info about getting us money.

We are still collecting bail, phone and commissary funds for the 11, although some have already been released. Thanks so much to the people and communities that have donated so far, but we’re still in need, so keep those donations rolling in. We will have a pay pal up and running soon.

Those not being released currently are being placed in 23 hour isolation lockdown. The bail for each is $65,000! We need to get these folks out and back into the fresh air.

Their trial date is 5/25 at the Buncombe County Courthouse in Asheville. Tomorrow and the day after are bond hearings seeking to reduce the exorbitantly high bail fees being imposed.

Currently, of the eleven folks being held by the city of Asheville, the following have been released on bail:

Karen

Wyatt

Havely

Hoped to be out soon:

Alissa

Cailin

Marshall

Currently held:

Randall

Nick

Naomi

Daniel

Jordan
