Earth Day Update from Family and Friends of Daniel McGowan

Happy Earth Day!

We will be having a massive one-day booksale on May 5th in New York City for Daniel's tuition fund. We hope you can join us for the sale but if you live locally and have books to donate, you can donate anytime from now until the sale. The contact information for the organizers is below so feel free to contact them if you have books to donate. Last year's booksale was a lot of fun so please join us!

2^nd Annual Benefit Book Sale for Daniel McGowan
Saturday May 5^th, 2007 [rain date: Sunday May 6^th]
12 noon to 7pm
Location: Astor Place between 3rd and 4th Avenues in Manhattan

Last year's book sale for Daniel was a great success and we hope for a repeat this year to raise money for Daniel's continued legal costs. The sale will again take place at the Book Thug Nation tables at Astor Place between 3rd and 4th Aves. Along with books we'll have Support Daniel t-shirts, patches and stickers for sale as well as vegan baked goods for donation.

To make the sale happen we NEED your book donations. Please see the list of guidelines below for what to donate. The best way to donate is to bring your books to Astor Place early on the 5^th. We'll be there starting at 10am to accept books. Donations can also be made in advance of the sale at the Book Thug Nation tables on most nice days leading up to the sale. Donation Guidelines

Books we want:
-Contemporary and Classic Literary Fiction
(e.g. Murakami, Nabokov, Plath, Safran Foer, Hemingway, Didion, Poe, Kerouac etc)
-Non Fiction on topics such as-
History
Sociology
Women's Studies
African American
Latino Studies
Art
Eastern Religion
Alternative Health/Nutrition
-Dictionaries and Thesauruses (these books will be donated directly to NYC Books Through Bars)
-Children's (books will be donated to local childcare collectives)

Books we DON'T want:
-Pulp fiction (a.k.a drug store paperbacks, best-sellers)
(e.g. Danielle Steele, Michael Crichton, Anne Rice, Tom Clancy, etc.)
-Cook Books
-Self Help
Books that aren't sold on May 5^th will either be kept for future Support Daniel book sales or donated to NYC Books Through Bars.

Also, we wanted to remind everyone of Daniel's two remaining court dates:

May 15th- Hearing on the terrorism enhancement the prosecution wants to impose on all defendants in the case. Location: 9AM at Oregon Federal Court, 405 East 8th Avenue, Eugene, Oregon. (Be careful crossing Franklin Boulevard).
Be sure to arrive early (only 42 seats!), dress well for court and please behave during the proceedings.

June 4th: Daniel's sentencing. 9AM at Oregon Federal Court, 405 East 8th Avenue, Eugene, Oregon.

Finally, we wanted to remind everyone that Daniel's 33rd birthday is coming up on May 2nd. This will be his last birthday on the outside before
he begins his prison sentence.
