Protest Victimization of Egyptian Political Prisoner's Family by Sovereign Bank

Family of Egyptian-American Political Prisoner Ahmed 'Abdel Sattar Facing
Victimization.
Lisa Sattar and Ali ordered to close Bank Accounts by Sovereign Bank

In what appears to be a blatant attempt to victimize Ahmad's family, Sovereign
Bank has decided to close their accounts WITHOUT EXPLANATION. New Trend
(anti-imperialist Islamic zine) has sent a letter of protest to the bank (see
below). We urge readers to call or write the bank. We must not let the bank
strike at Ahmed's innocent wife and children, who have not committed any crime
and are U.S. citizens.

Dear Ms. Fiumara,

I have learned that you are closing Lisa Sattar's account without explanation.
You have done the same with her son Ali's account, as well as the accounts of
her other two children.

As you know, the Sattars are U.S. citizens. They have committed no crime, and
you have not delineated any reason for the closures of their accounts.

When Lisa Sattar called you to find out why her account was being closed, you
refused to give her an explanation. The only possible explanation is that Lisa
is the wife of Ahmad Abdel Sattar, and Ali is his son. Ahmad is a well-known
political prisoner, imprisoned by the U.S. government for talking to opponents
of the Egyptian government (a U.S. foremost ally).

Thus you are victimizing Lisa and Ali and the other two Sattar children based
on their relationship to a political prisoner, Ahmad Abdel Sattar. There is no
justification for such persecution under U.S. law.

Please reinstate the accounts of Lisa and her children, otherwise I and other
proponents of civil liberties will call for a boycott of Sovereign Bank, and
for the withdrawal of the accounts of Muslims and their friends from
your bank.

Sincerely
[New Trend Editor]
