Daniel McGowan is a social and environmental justice activist and

multiple counts of arson and conspiracy, relating to the arson of Superior
Lumber company in Glendale, Oregon on January 2, 2001 and Jefferson Poplar
Farms in Clatskanie, Oregon on May 21, 2001 claimed by the Earth
Liberation Front. McGowan was facing a minimum of life in prison if
convicted when he accepted a non-cooperation plea agreement on November 9,
2006. His arrest is part of what the US government has dubbed Operation
Backfire.

New York native McGowan has worked on many activist issues including
military counter-recruitment, demonstrations against the Republican
National Convention, the Really Really Free Market, and the support of
prisoners such as Jeff "Free" Luers and others. At the time of his arrest
McGowan was a graduate student earning a Master's degree in acupuncture
and an employee of WomensLaw.org, a nonprofit group that helps women in
domestic abuse situations navigate the legal system. He is currently
working on another Master's degree while serving a 7 year prison sentence.

The Infoshop is both a radical book and record store, as well as a
resource center. We are organized around anarchist principles and are
volunteer and cooperatively run. In addition to our modest selection of
radical books, and politically charged independent punk, hip-hop, folk,
spoken word and audio cd's & records we maintain a small video lending
library of documentary and political films; provide free computer and
internet access; make available meeting and event space for radical groups
and projects; sponsor a variety of political and cultural events such as
hosting speakers and authors, film-screenings, artists and various
performers; as well as provide a gathering space for radical activists to
meet and connect with other activists, independent thinkers, and
organizing projects. We work to promote and support the fight for global
justice and total liberation.
