ELP Information Request Bulletin (30th of October 2008)
Dear friends
ELP has learnt of a trial in Spain involving three Galizian independent activists (Galicia is an area in north west Spain). The actions all appear to be environmentally inspired. The three on trial are Giana Gomes, Ugio Caamanho and Maria Bagaria. ELP understands that Maria has been bailed but the other two have been remanded into custody.
Below is a report about the case against the three. If anyone has any further information, including prison or support group addresses please do get in contact.

The prosecutor is asking for 19, 21 and 3 years in prisson for three activists: Giana Gomes, Ugio Caamanho and Maria Bagaria.
They are Galizian independentist activists but the actions are very conected with environmental issues.
Maria Bagaria is acused of setting fire with incendiary devices to the trucks used to build a hydroelectric power station in A Merca (Galicia)
The other two are acused of puting a explosive device that destroyed a bank cashier belonging to Caixagalicia the 23 of julio 2005. This bank is involved in planting eucaliptus trees (a foreign specie used to make cheep paper and which is destroying natural forests of the region), masive building in the coasts, destruction of the landscape, construction of the high speed train (AVE), motorways and highways in important ecosistems of Galicia.
Therefore, even they have been labed as independentists activists the charges can also be considered as ecotages.
The trial will start the 3 of November.
